Enhancing Substitute Teaching Pool: New Updates for Providers and Substitutes

At Wonderschool, we’re constantly evolving to make child care management easier and more efficient for both providers and substitutes. Our recent updates are designed to enhance communication, simplify job management, and improve the overall experience of using the Substitute Teaching Pool. Here’s a look at some of our latest features:

#1: Provider and Substitute Rating Systems

To help build a culture of trust and transparency, we’ve launched a basic system for providers and substitutes to rate each other and provide feedback. All feedback remains confidential for admin use. This video shows how the current version works.

#2: Flexible Job Cancellation for Providers

Child care is filled with variables. Some days, a provider may not need help from the substitute they requested weeks prior. Providers now have the ability to cancel assigned jobs directly, as long as they are within a specific timeframe. Each region can decide on the appropriate notice period, ensuring everyone has enough time to adjust. This means providers no longer need admin assistance for cancellations unless it's a last-minute change.

#3: Proactive Notifications for Substitutes

We’ve added a new notification feature for substitutes that we hope will keep schedules more clear and organized. If a substitute’s application isn’t accepted within five days, the substitute will  receive a reminder that allows them to remove it. This helps to mitigate the scenario where a substitute applies to a job far in the future, forgets about the application, and then the provider accepts at the last minute when the substitute is no longer available.

#4: Location-Specific Substitute Search Tool

This feature complements the map search, allowing administrators to find substitutes within a specific mile radius by simply entering a provider’s name. The results can even be exported as a CSV for easy reference—making coordination smoother than ever.

#5: Account Suspension for Substitute Profiles

To address any issues promptly, admins now have the option to temporarily suspend a substitute’s account. This feature ensures substitutes can’t reactivate their profile until matters are resolved, giving admins greater control over the quality and reliability of the substitute network.

#6: Enhanced Job Management for Substitutes

Managing jobs is easier than ever for substitutes. A substitute can  now view all job applications, worked hours, and timesheets in one place—allowing for better tracking and organization.

#7: A New Admin Jobs View

The new  admin interface will make it easier for region admins to find and manage jobs effectively. With features like filtering by provider or substitute, date ranges, and job statuses, region admins will find managing tasks much more intuitive. Here’s a short video to walk through it.
