Winter Play For Virginia Kids

Winter is here in Virginia! The state saying goes: “Virginia is for lovers.” This includes lovers of adventure, entertainment, and surprises, all of which Virginia offers in full. The state sees its fair share of snowfall, so sledding slopes and cabin getaways are a given. There are some other hidden gems in Virginia that will leave families cheering for more. Just because it is winter time does not mean you need to head into hibernation! Check out these five winter activities for kids in Virginia they won’t want to miss and won’t soon forget.

Make a Splash

The Massanutten Resort in McGaheysville has a 50,000 gallon water park centerpiece known as The FlowRider. It is a cannot miss indoor surfing attraction, steeped at a five-foot incline. They also have eight slides for the adventurous, water cannons for the mischievous, and a giant tipping bucket for dunking. Massanutten Resort also has a frog pond for the younger swimmers in your family. While you can make a weekend getaway out of your trip to the resort, day trippers are welcome as well.

Warm Up in a Museum

Hit the Snow

Bryce Resort is a must! In the Allegheny Mountains, west of Washington, D.C., the Bryce Resort is a great stop for sportier kids. First time skiers and snowboarders, four to six- year-olds and up can enjoy cutting tracks down the packed snow. Skate By

Virginia loves its skating rinks. Immerse you and your family in the beautifully decorated streets of Reston Town Center. The Reston Town Center Pavilion Ice Rink is open November through March. You can also head to the National Mall for the National Gallery of Art Skating Ice Rink. Once you are finished with figure 8’s, warm up in surrounding museums or grab lunch from the nearby cafes.

Take the guided tour to see how the founding father lived, or have tea with Martha herself.
